• Fulton County YMCA

      Johnstown, New York

A community in an economically depressed area had a YMCA that was more than 50 years old – the only athletic facility serving the entire county. The Sprout Foundation donated $500,000 as a matching grant to reach the preliminary fundraising and capital commitments needed to relocate the facility to a more central location and begin construction of the project. Today, membership has increased well above the projected levels, reflecting the reach and positive influence the new YMCA has had on the community and surrounding area.

    • The Denver Waldorf School

      Denver, Colorado

After purchasing an old school building that contained asbestos, The Denver Waldorf School needed to perform a complete and professional abatement. The school also needed new furnishings to replace their very old and non-functional desks and chairs. The Sprout Foundation contributed $117,000 to fund both needs, creating a much healthier and fresher atmosphere and environment for the students.

    • The Third Way

      Denver, Colorado

For teens with severe mental and emotional issues, life challenges often lead to homelessness or incarceration. The Third Way provides housing, schooling, and real life counseling for these disadvantaged adolescents.

Several facilities around the Denver metro house the teens, including one for teen mothers and their children. When the city of Denver took over the old Air Force base at Lowry, The Third Way received a gift of land. The Sprout Foundation then donated $650,000 to fund the construction of one of the houses that make up a complex of four houses and a school on the land. Each home houses eight teens that receive extensive on-site counseling, supervision, and care so that they can become productive members of society.

Like so many schools around the country, Middle Park High School had bullying issues. The Sprout Foundation funded Challenge Day, a program that confronts and creates an environment to let the students see the effects of how teens treat each other in the school and community–creating a profound experience for the school’s students and teachers.
